This year's Fr Ragheed Ganni 5 a side football tournament was held last weekend at the Irish college. With 9 teams competing. Unfortunately for the Beda/Scott team we were knocked out in the first round with only two games played for the day with a nil all draw and a 3-1 defeat sealing our fate.

After the tournament finished there was a prayer sevice held for Fr Ragheed in the college chapel.

The tournament was eventually won by the Irish college (no Irishmen were in the team though!) against the previous two year running champs the Lombard college. Maybe next year will be our year.
Fr Ragheed was a former student at the Irish college and a native of Iraq. He returned home as a priest and was celebrating mass in his church when members of Isis arrived told him never to come back to this place again. The following week Fr Ragheed returned to say mass in the church again and Isis also returned and took Fr Ragheed away with his deacon and shot and killed them. This happened on the 3rd of January 2007, and the Irish college has commerated his life with this tournament since 2009. Fr Ragheed has been incorporated into the mosaics on the altar wall along side the Blessed Virgin and the apostles, he is the far right figure.
